SANDY — The South Towne Center has been renamed The Shops at South Town, mall administrators announced Monday.
The Sandy shopping center’s new name accompanies a $20 million redesign initiative scheduled to be completed in November 2016. The project will update store facades, expand the mall’s outdoor and children’s play areas, and increase dining options, the mall’s owners and managers said in a statement.
Mall officials have said they hope to create a shopping environment that is more outdoors-oriented.
The newly named Shops at South Town, at 1.3 million square feet, is one of the largest malls in the Salt Lake Valley. It will remain open throughout the scheduled renovation.
“The renovation process is moving ahead full speed,” Gary Karl, chief operating officer of Pacific Retail Capital Partners, the company that owns and manages the mall, said in a statement. “In the coming months customers will begin to experience remarkable improvements in the shopping center as we create a vibrant, contemporary, outdoor-inspired shopping experience with more retailers, entertainment and dining options to serve customers of all ages.”
